Our Travels
We are currently staying at the Hideaway RV Park in Jackson, Michigan. It wound up being a really nice park. The dogs like walking along the lake and is very quiet. Only problem is, internet is terrible.
We spent our first night of our trip at Our Lady of Perpetual Hops in New Albany, Indiana. This brewery is part of Harvest Host, which has about 2,500 locations. They are located at breweries, Distilleries. Wineries, museums and other locations. They allow fully self-contained RVs a free stay overnight at their locations. While there, we tasted beer and listened to live music.
Haines in on the northern part of the Alaskan Panhandle. We took a photo tour in a small group with a professional photographer. In this land-based tour, we were shown local sights including a rock sculpture, a lake I would love to fly fish and of course, eagles.
Ketchikan is located along the Inside Passage. It is know for fishing and the Native American culture. There are numerous totem poles on display. We took a photo tour of the area in a mid-sized boat. We were able to see Bald Eagles all over the place and some dolphins swam along our tour.
Judy and I joined our friends Jay, Bill, Wendy, Joan and Cindy on an Alaskan cruise round trip from San Francisco. It was a little rough leaving the bay but it was beautiful outside. Our cruise was 10 days. We visited several ports in Alaska and one in Canada.
Our original destination for the Canadian stop was Victoria, BC. The itinerary was changed to Prince Rubert, BC. This is a small city but we did have a nice tour including an antique train station and the city museum. It was named after a naming contest to a person who has never visited the city. This city also served the US Military during WW2 as a logistics center due to the location from Alaska. Of course, I did learn when you travel with weird people, never set down your phone for their access.
And of course, the evidence of my phone thieves, Jay and Bill. Judy didn’t even stop them! Where’s security when you need them?
Our ship entered the Tracy Arm Fjord at five in the morning. It was extremely cold out but the weather cooperated. The glaciers were visible on both sides of the fjord. At the end, our ship made a u-turn and we left at about 10 AM.
Juneau is the capitol of Alaska. We took a boat photo tour along with Jay. We were able to see the hump back whales, sea lions and eagles
6/15: We totally relaxed all day. In the evening we had dinner with Dave’s cousin Rick. He then came over and saw our Motor home. I also gave him the genealogy info my cousin Cindy sent for Dave’s family. We didn’t get to see Dave’s cousin Jason this time as he was in Illinois for his daughter’s graduation from Northwestern. Congratulations Saya.
6/16: Yesterday we drove to Albuquerque, NM. It was a horrifically long drive due to an accident. It took 3+ hours to go 5 miles. The roadway on I 40 was at least a better drive. We spent the night a High Desert RV Park.
6/17: Today was an easy drive. We drove to Amarillo, TX today. An easy drive. We went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner. We are staying at Oasis RV Park. (No relation to Oasis Las Vegas RV Resort).
Wow. Things have been crazy. We were planning on leaving Las Vegas the end of April, but David was diagnosed with Prostate Cancer. After many tests it was determined that the cancer was localized (had not spread to the lymph nodes or bones). He had 28 radiation treatments, the last one was today.
Day 1 6/14.
We left Las Vegas at 10:15 am today and arrived at our destination in Arizona at about 4:30 pm. We are staying at Distant Drums RV Resort in Camp Verde (just outside Sedona). We will have lunch or dinner with Dave’s cousin tomorrow.
I 40 east had lots of construction and the road was bad! I 17 south was even worse!
Hopefully we will go to Montezuma’s Castle, Montezuma’s Well, and or Tuzigoot National Monument tomorrow.
